Migrating to new other Artica machine

New postby frater » Fri Nov 15, 2013 8:29 am

I'm currently running an ISO install of Zarafa in a HyperV environment.
The OS, Debian 6.0, doesn't have support for HyperV which means it will not honour the dynamic memory settings and all.
Furthermore only legacy network support.
This is all on paper, but in practice it means I have to reboot the machine using a cronjob 4 times a day to prevent memory errors.

I think this will be solved by Migrating to Debian 7

What is the easiest way to migrate?

I had to do some fast troubleshooting with Artica 2 weeks ago with a complete disfunctional setup.
I did a fresh install and then copied the /var/lib/ldap and /var/lib/mysql over and had a running system to run mail....
That's NOT how I want to do it now. It was just to get things at least running...

For LDAP system it is good and you will be able to recover it easily.
For Zarafa, this will be more complicated
You need to dump the MySQL database and backup attachments because the MySQL version between debian 6 and Debian 7 should not be the same ( to verify )

I tried like you described.
I copied the ldap dir to the new server and all Users are displayed. Then I made an sqldump from the zarafa database and restored it to the new server.
I´m able to login to a mailaccount.
The database size is displayed as expected, but the mailboxes are displayed with 0MB.
Did I something wrong.

I have created a backup/restore feature since latest version.
It is only for the Artica parameters.
But after running this procedure you just have to restore the Zarafa database.
Be carrefull on latests versions the database is not stored on the standard MySQL service, there are a dedicated MySQL service running that you have to use.

I used the backup and Restore feature to migrate to a new server
I made a backup to my NAS. After installing the new server I thought I only have to restore the backup to have all my settings, databases an mails on the new server.
During restore I get the messages Restoring LDAP database, Restoring Artica databases....
But after restarting all Artica services I have the organisation but with no users and i have no mailbox on the new server.
Did I something wrong?

I did something wrong.
I used differendt ldap domains.
So a restore of the users was not possible.
