OVH ISP: Network settings gets overwritten [CLOSED]

New postby hdavy2002 » Fri Jun 07, 2013 4:50 pm

Hi folks,

I am hosting a dedi server from ovh.com and they gave me some specific network instructions to use on my Virtual machines. I enter then into /etc/network/interfaces but it gets overwritten when I do /etc/init.d/networking restart.

This is what i need to put in my interfaces file

WARNING: Under no circumstances use the primary IP of your server as the gateway! You must under no circumstances use: route add default gw dev eth0 or you could cut your IP from the virtual server.

For Debian 6*, the DNS server configuration is done directly in the file /etc/network/interfaces or you find it in this section:

dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed (default)
dns-nameservers 213.186.33.99 # OVH DNS Server dns-search ovh.net # To quickly fix the hosts on the OVH network

/etc/network/interfaces
auto lo eth0
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet static
address IP Failover
netmask 255.255.255.255
broadcast IP Failover
post-up route add Dedicated Server IP but end in .254 dev eth0
post-up route add default gw Dedicated Server IP but end in .254
post-down route del Dedicated Server IP but end in .254 dev eth0
post-down route del default gw Dedicated Server IP but end in .254

/etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 213.186.33.99

If you look on the network settings you will find an OVH checkbox that take care of these settings.

Thanks for the reply. In my case, I could not access the GUI after the typed network settings, username, password etc. I was using KVM. Then I decided to delete everything and start from scratch without any KVM.

So on a fresh box, it asked me to reboot and then the machine went offline. I could not ping it etc etc. I have re-installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I am thinking, if I should go the KVm route or fresh install on the machine.

Thanks once again for your advise. OVh is real pain to be honest.

cheers

the file
Code: Select all
/usr/share/artica-postfix/exec.virtuals-ip.php
is designed to build the network.
Remove it and Artica will not rebuild the network
